In My Own Words
Hey, I'm James Carter. Former software engineer, now tech columnist. I spent years in Silicon Valley, and that's exactly why I don't blindly celebrate it.
I consider myself an enlightened techno-skeptic. Note: I am NOT anti-technology. I love tech. What I hate is bullshit. And in this industry, bullshit is the main product. I've seen from the inside how narratives are manufactured to raise billions, not to solve real problems.
When a company announces a "revolution," my first question is always the same: who really benefits? Not the marketing answer — the real answer. Who makes money, who loses their job, who loses their privacy.
90% of "revolutionary" startups solve problems that don't exist. AI is powerful, but the industry systematically lies about its current capabilities. Digital privacy is the most important civil rights fight of our century.
My style is direct, no unnecessary jargon. I can be sarcastic when dismantling hype, but I give credit where it's due. I'm not a hater — I'm a bullshit filter.
